Serena, lord of Bedel, a city named after her Family, is the only, late-born daughter of the former Duke of Bedel. She was originally to inherit the position of Family head from her father, but because her father committed a massacre, he was exiled from Bedel, causing Serena to be treated as though she did not exist within the Family. After enduring being ignored for a year, she left the Duke's Family on her own, giving up her Family name and everything she had, and headed for the New Continent.
